The trip
has been set again on Saturday, the June 28th of this week. We took a small
local merchandise ship between Yangon and Pyapon in weekly schedule.
We are only
three volunteers now to reduce “cost” and enhance “effectiveness” of our
donations and project. However, the group more than 20 volunteers will be
joined at Pyapon on Sunday along with 2 loaded trucks of blankets, rice, beans,
pans and pots, tea leaves, cloths, home medicines and cash for donation as
well.
We
transferred our goods; painting materials, all 100 chairs and our recently
refurbished tables for our school kids at Too Myaung village. Some more zinc
corrugated zinc roofs as well, a cover for cement water tank in progress. Yet the ship, Yadanar Devi left at 4 O’ clock in the evening, she spooled and
whirled back and forth until 5.15 PM.
We have a
small sized cabin of 6x5 feet in its widest part. Through the battle with buzzing mosquitos and space colony for a leg or two with roomies in that kind of compartment, the
Yadanar Devi arrives on shore 3.30 in the morning. We waited best part of an
hour to calm down the noise and busy crowds for trading and moving goods. We
then left it for our station in Pyapon. The village team appointed by us
according to their influence on their villagers will join us later by 7 O’
clock. We have to wait for them.
A good
shower was served at Pyapon local house, where we station. The villagers from
Too Myaung got us in time, but they can’t load the tables and chairs with them
because the big boat from the village is supposed to be late. It can arrive
around 09.00. So we crowd went back to the ship, and introduced our villagers
to them so that they can get the load out of ship on behalf of us. We can’t
wait until they are fully loaded and set off; we have another arrival today from
Yangon for another trip.
Ma Yan Wa village is far south part of half
an hour boat ride beyond Too Myaung
village. Raining like cats and dogs, it’s too consistency today. Yet, we went on. We have seen the
signs that there has been some aids arrival by WFP and some local donors
. It’s
getting lesser and lesser to see the local donors around the region due to time
length and low interest or may be the other reason; it’s the only hope for the
villagers to see the NGO or INGO arrival. But a villager said “WFP informed for
6 months support for us, but we were explained how it was difficult to
transport the goods from here and there. So we must wait!”
Thus, our arrival and donations are not in vain, it is actually a great time
when they have few pieces left home for uncertain days to come. See our
donation photos at http://picasaweb.google.com/peacehousetravel/28JuneTrip
Delivery
finished at 03.30 O’ clock in the evening. On our way back to Pyapon, we
detoured to Naut Pyan Toe Ywa Ma village where it seems “very good” in
condition; closeness to the town Pyapon,
clean and systematic village structure, these all made observers in and
from the river boats kept away from it. But it was a wrong guess. When we stood
in the middle of debris, it’s the middle of the village. Middle of nothing….?
An old women said “Thank you for your visit!”
We spread
our volunteers and strong villagers organized in the middle of the village footpath
to deliver rice and cooking wares door to door. Nobody has to queue or stand in
a line to fetch things, because the village is spacious and systematic so we
can go place to place for delivery with our muscles and labors.
We reached
Pyapon shore at 05.30 O’ clock and we went back -by the unloaded and vacant
trucks that were brought for donations – to Yangon at 6. And we reached home 1 AM of today, 30th of June.
