Re: Victims of Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar need your

Greetings from Peace House International.

Peace House International is a private sector travel and tour operator who had started this aid programme on its own initiative to help the victims of the cyclone. The PHT team has extensive contacts in the delta area and with full dedication to assist our countrymen in any way possible.

It took a while to contact you immediately after a severe cyclone called Nargis hit Myanmar, as we have been discussing on this issues among ourselves. Cyclone Nargis has claimed the lives of more than 78,000 people with over 50,000 made homeless, according to the latest figures from the Myanmar's official state-run media. The death toll is still rising and the number of homeless and displaced people incalculable. Therefore, the need for assistance becomes more and more pressing.

The disaster has struck particularly hard at the famous rice bowl of Myanmar, the Irrawaddy Division, which also is the most populated province in the country, devastating all the rice fields and homes. Inhabitants of Yangon and all in the Irrawaddy delta areas are facing enormous difficulties of even getting basic needs, such as clean water and food.

Thus, we have now decided to help people of Myanmar who are desperately in need through our friends' and partners' network internationally. We would like to count on you to give us a hand for your contribution of whatever amount you can donate or to collect for us. The Peace House International staffs in Yangon office will run this ground operation for practical assistance, and you will get a detail feedback and reports.

The priority now is to save the living and to do this, we are now organizing relief programs to help the victims rebuild their lives.
